IKEA has ambitious plans for its India foray, with a target to open 25 stores in India by 2025, and its first India store in Hyderabad by the end of 2017, Patrik Antoni, deputy country manager of IKEA, told BloombergQuint in an interview.

The Swedish furniture retailer also plans to open one store in Mumbai over the next two years and then enter the Delhi-National Capital Region and Bengaluru. It will eventually also open stores Ahmedabad, Chennai and Pune, Antoni said.

Each IKEA store in India will employ 500-700 employees directly, and create job opportunities for 1,500 people indirectly. Antoni also added that the company plans to double its sourcing from India by 2020.
