Maradu Flats: SC Pulls up Kerala Govt for Not Complying With Orders

The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the Kerala government for not complying with its orders to demolish four apartment complexes constructed at Kochi's Maradu in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) notifications.

The top court said it is shocked to know about illegal structures coming up in coastal zone areas and said the chief secretary should conduct a survey to gauge the extent of devastation caused to nature.

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said it will pass a detailed order on Friday on the issue.

The action was taken after an official in the state's electricity department had given a written complaint against the controversial MLA from UP’s Ballia, they said.

Two Killed, Eight Injured in Scrap Blast in Amritsar

Anti-Taliban raids by Afghan forces backed by US airstrikes killed at least 40 civilians attending a wedding party in the southern Helmand province in Afghanistan, Afghan officials said.

The civilian deaths in Sunday night's raids on Taliban hideouts further rattled Afghanistan amid an upsurge in violence that's followed the collapse this month of US-Taliban peace talks to end America's longest war.
