Maharashtra Reports 10,697 New COVID Cases, 360 Deaths in 24 Hours

Maharashtra reported 10,697 new COVID-19 cases and 360 deaths on Saturday, 12 June. The state also saw 14,910 discharges taking the recovering rate to 95.48 percent.

The Lancet COVID-19 Commission India Task Force said on Saturday that it didn't have "substantial evidence" to suggest that children will be more affected or have greater illness severity in the third wave of COVID-19.

“Most children with COVID-19 are asymptomatic, and amongst those symptomatic mild infections are predominant. Most children have fever with respiratory symptoms, and often present with gastrointestinal symptoms (such as diarrhea, vomiting, pain in abdomen) and atypical manifestation compared to adults. The proportion of symptomatic children increases as age increases as does the severity in such age groups,” the report stated.

Meanwhile, India reported 84,332 new COVID-19 cases — the lowest in 70 days — on Saturday, 12 June. With this, the country’s total case tally has gone up to 2,93,59,155.

According to data provided by the Health Ministry, there are 10,80,690 active cases in India right now and with 4,002 deaths in last 24 hours, the total death toll has reached 3,67,081.

COVID-19 TPR in Kerala Falls, But Deaths Remain High

For the first time in the last few weeks, the Covid test positivity rate (TPR) in Kerala fell to 12.72 per cent, but the death tally continues to be high, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a statement on Saturday.

Vijayan's statement said that 13,832 people turned Covid positive after 1,08,734 samples was tested in the past 24 hours, while there were 1,29,488 active cases across the state.

The TPR last month rose as high as 30 per cent following which Vijayan announced a statewide lockdown, which will be in force till Wednesday.

No Data to Say Kids Will be More Impacted in 3rd COVID Wave: Report

Delhi Records 213 New COVID-19 Cases, 28 Deaths

Delhi recorded 213 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is the lowest in over three months. With 28 deaths on Friday, the total fatalities goes up to 24,800.

The positivity rate in the national capital has come down to 0.30 percent.
