11 Students Dead After Minibus Falls Into Gorge in J&K’s Shopian

The injured have been moved from the scene of the accident to Shopian Hospital.

Eleven students of a computer coaching institute, including nine girls, lost their lives and seven others were injured on Thursday, 27 June, when the minibus in which they were travelling fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, the police said, according to PTI.

The vehicle which was carrying students from the Poonch-based institute fell into the gorge near Peer Ki Gali on the Mughal road which connects Bafliaz in Poonch to Shopian, a police official said.

The seven others who have sustained injuries in the accident have been shifted to a Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment, sources told The Quint.

Meanwhile, Governor Satya Pal Malik conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased.
