Any Satyajit Ray fan is more often than not familiar with Feluda. The wit, intelligence and charisma of the ace investigator continues to resonate with Bengalis, ever since Ray created the character many years ago.
Such is Feluda’s popularity that his stories have been translated into many languages, and are read voraciously today by many non-Bengali Indians as well.
On Satyajit Ray’s death anniversary, here is a list of some of the must-read chronicles of Ray’s created character – Feluda.
Tourists still throng the Jaisalmer fort in Rajasthan ever since it was featured in the iconic movie.
Pradosh C. Mitter a.k.a. Feluda was often known to fall into cases even while on vacation with his cousin Topshe and friend, Jatayu––as was the case with ‘Joy Baba Felunath’.
‘Baksho Rahasya’ was popular enough to be adapted twice. One was a radio play starring Soumitra Chatterjee, broadcast while Ray was still alive. The other was a telefilm directed by Ray’s son Sandip Ray, starring Sabyasachi Chakrabarti.
Tintorettor Jishu saw Feluda travelling abroad to Hong Kong. This was also the third film of the Sandip Ray New Feluda franchise.
A classic action-packed chronicle, this was the first film of the New Feluda franchise where Sabyasachi Chakrabarti started to play the beloved character.
Feluda travelled all across India to solve his cases––in this case even to the hills––and the detailed narrative by Ray really made the sleuth come alive in the imagination of his readers.
Not only in India, Feluda is also a well-known private investigator abroad. In ‘Royal Bengal Rahasya’, for example, Feluda dives headlong into a case while he is in Bhutan.
