Counting began shortly after polling closed at around 6:30 in the Pakistan general elections, on Wednesday, 25 July. It’s only a few hours before Pakistan announces its new prime minister. The elections seem to be a close match between cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s PTI and PML-N, the centre-right conservative party formerly led by Nawaz Sharif.

Before the counting began, Lahore’s awaam spoke about whom they voted for.

The last two times we voted for Nawaz Sharif. There was no difference, no change in our country.

Where on one side the people demanded change and wanted a better future for their kids, on the other side, some were happy with PML-N’s work and wished the party returned to power.

I have voted for PML-N. They’ve done some good work.
