As a form of protest the locals participated in The Quint and campaigner My Right To Breathe’s Raksha Bandhan’s campaign Vrikshabandhan.

On Saturday, Noida residents organised their very own ‘Chipko Movement’. The locals tied a ‘Rakhi’ as a sign of protest against the Noida Authority who plan to cut around 3,000 trees to make city’s largest Biodiversity Park in Sector 91.

The move has not only angered the residents but also made them demand a justification from the authorities on their decision.

According to The Times of India, Noida Authority claims that the trees in the forest are very old.

As a form of protest, the locals participated in Vrikshabandhan – a joint campaign by The Quint and My Right To Breathe – and tied rakhis around trees.

To have a biodiversity park on the cost of reducing the forest area is not what the residents want.
‘Please don’t take my forest away,’ says Triveni, resident.

“Thank you for everything,” says Yash, resident.
