Tributes poured in on Twitter on Tuesday, 15 January, in commemoration of the men who safeguard the country’s borders.

Tweeple lauded the courage, spirit and valour of the Indian army on Army Day, which is a celebration and recognition of the day when the then Lieutenant General KM Cariappa took over the reigns from General Sir Francis Butcher as Commander-in-Chief of India in 1949.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his salute to the army’s dedication and spirit.

The President of India Ram Nath Kovind also tweeted his greetings to the ‘sentinels of our (the nation’s) liberty’.

Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh shared an emotional video, saluting the spirit of the Indian army.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik tweeted his best wishes to the soldiers “who safeguard sovereignty & territorial integrity of our nation.”

Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted in the same vein.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratulated all ‘veer naris’.

Saluting ‘Men and Women in Uniform’

Actor Anushka Sharma took to Twitter to salute the men and women who keep the nation safe.

Actor Anupam Kher tweeted something similar as well.

Virendra Sehwag too applauded the ‘extraordinary men’.

On this Army Day, leading up to the Republic Day on 26 January, you too can write your ‘Sandesh to a Soldier’.
