People in India are celebrating Vishwakarma Puja on 17 September. It is a celebration of Hindu God of Architecture Vishwakarma. As mentioned in the Rigveda, he is also known as the divine carpenter and the creator of all the palaces of Hindu gods and goddesses, along with fabulous weapons and vehicles.

Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Lord Vishwakarma every year. It is generally celebrated on 16 or 17 September according to the Gregorian calendar. It is celebrated at the end of the Bhadra month of Hindu calendar.

This year, the festival is being celebrated on Tuesday, 17 September. It is observed by people in states like Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tripura and is also celebrated in our neighbouring county of Nepal.

Who Celebrates It?

Vishwakarma Puja which falls on the Kanya Sankranti of Hindu calendar is celebrated primarily in factories and industrial areas, often where people work with machines or in a retail establishment where goods are sold to consumers.

It is not only acknowledged by engineers and the architectural community but also by artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers, factory workers, etc.

How Is it Celebrated?

People appeal to God for a prosperous future, safe working conditions and, most importantly, achievement in their individual fields. Labourers, additionally, petition God for the smooth working of different machines. It is standard for skilled workers to respect their tools in his name and avoid utilising the instruments at the same time. Modern electronic devices are also worshipped on this day for their smooth working.
