The cities of Mandu and Dhar, located in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh, are a photographer’s dream come true
Madhya Pradesh has much to offer photographers, amateur and professional. At least that’s the conclusion journalist Aaqib Khan arrived at while visiting the cities of Mandu and Dhar, located in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. Mandu was founded in the 6th century, and was an important military outpost in medieval India. It is a repository of Afghan architecture and also protected by India’s largest fort, Mandu Fort. But Mandu is not a city defined by war. Indeed, it is also known for the legendary romance of Baz Bahadur and Roopmati which blossomed amidst its palaces.
Nearly 30km from Mandu is the city of Dhar which has a lot of structures that can enrich your social media feeds from large forts to old Sanskrit colleges and Jain temple, and even a museum of sculpture with exquisite artwork.
“I had never heard of these places,” says Aaqib. “It was like discovering a new world you never knew existed, but was always right there in front of you. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to capture different kinds of architecture since you can find everything from Hindu, Islamic, Maratha, to Jain monuments here. ” He primarily used a DSLR camera with a wide angle lens to photograph the cities and was also ably assisted by his phone camera.
