Baarish is no bae.

It steals foundation from your face, leaving you with a half-caked visage; makes your kajal disappear as if it were your salary at the end of the month. And wipes away your lipstick with little regard for how long you had to wait for it at the Sephora sale.

Yes, baarish is brutal.

It doesn’t care if you are going out on a date. Or heading to an important meeting where a possibly ghoulish face could make you a meme. (Damn that half an hour you spent battling against time on a frantic rainy morning, thereby foregoing any possibility of making it to office on time!)

How do we save ourselves from embarrassing makeup fails that threaten to wipe out our swag?

Ek Halki Si Foundation

Get this clear: in the rains, foundation is foe.

Does that mean we are suggesting going barefaced? Nah, no need to forego your style! How about an effective in-between? A light mousse, suggests makeup stylist Raashi Wallia. Or a powder compact. FYI, cream and water don’t mix. So you are good with a cream-based foundation too, reassures Bengaluru-based Sabrina Suhail. Let ‘em #nomakeup selfies coming!

Kajal Bewafa hai

Why you so disloyal during rains, kajal? Weren’t we baes for life? Anyway, for all you die-hard kajal lovers, makeup artist Raashi suggests a hack: Besides your waterline, put it on your lower lashline as well. It will stay. And unless you can bet a thousand bucks that your waterproof mascara is indeed waterproof and not a marketing fib, DO NOT TOUCH IT.

Jab We Matte

Now before you say jhoot ‘matte’ bolo, let me assure you that this one has the experts’ approval. Matte sticks like a fridge magnet in the rains.

No Thoppoing the Eye Shadow

Don’t thoppo a lot of eyeshadow or there's a strong chance you'll end up looking like a ghoul when it washes away. Some light coloured eyeshadow can be trusted, and its washing away will not be as dramatic as a black eyeshadow’s.

Trust a Primer Shimer

Primer is good. Trust a primer. It seals makeup and is also a cosmetic shield against excess humidity in the air.

Moisturiser Ki Jai

Don’t be confused with the abundance of water all around you. Your skin’s water is still being sapped by the humidity in the air. So replenish it with a water-based moisturiser. Say with me, moisturiser ki jai!

Because darlings, monsoon or no monsoon, the divaness always has to stay!
