Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan

S Radhakrishnan was the first vice president and the second president of India. He was also an influential Indian thinker in academic circles of the 20th century, which is why we celebrate “Teachers’ Day” on his birthday. He wrote extensively throughout his life and sought to define, defend and promote his own religious philosophy.

Radhakrishnan defended Hinduism against “uniformed Western criticism”, and even acted as a bridge between India and the West.

Radhakrishnan received a knighthood in 1931, the Bharat Ratna in 1954 and an honorary membership of the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963. He believed that “teachers should be the best minds in the country.

Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury’s famous compositions include “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love.”

Known for his vibrate stage presence and four octave vocal range, Freddie Mercury was a British singer, songwriter and record producer. He was also the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. His Queen bandmate Brian May described him as a “lover of life, singer of songs.”

As a member of Queen, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004. His famous compositions include “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Somebody to Love,” “Killer Queen” and “We Are The Champions.”

Vidhu Vinod Chopra

Vidhu Vinod Chopra is a famous Indian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer.

A famous Indian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer, some of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s best work include 3 Idiots, Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai. Chopra grew up in Srinagar and went to Pune to study film direction at the Film and Television Institute of India.

His first documentary “An Encounter With Faces” shed light to the lives of India’s destitute children. It was nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1978.

He made his English language directorial debut with Broken Horses– a thriller set in the backdrop of the US-Mexico gang wars. Veteran filmmaker Ramanand Sagar was Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s half brother.

TN Seshagopalan

TN Seshagopalan is a recipient of Madras Music Academy’s Sangeetha Kalanidhi.

TN Seshagopalan is an acclaimed Carnatic singer, musician and composer. A master of Veena and harmonium, he is also a recipient of Madras Music Academy’s Sangeetha Kalanidhi. Born in Nagapattinam, he hold a degree in Science from Madras University and a degree in Music from Madurai University. He has toured in various countries and given unforgettable performances. In 1983, Seshagopalan produced and acted in a Tamil movie “Thodi Raagam.”

He made his debut on the silver screen with a film called “Rabbit Test” in 1978, but he owes his rise to fame to his comedic roles in Mr. Mom, Johnny Dangerously and Gung Ho.
