Annie Besant

Annie Besant served as the president of the Indian National Congress.

Annie Besant was a British socialist and women’s rights activist, who supported Irish and Indian self-rule. A secular woman, Besant divorced her deeply religious husband of eight years in 1873. She was associated with the National Secular Society and the Marxist Social Democratic Federation.

Later in her life, Besant became interested in theosophy and came to India for theosophy-related work. Apart from establishing the Central Hindu College and the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board, she became the president of the Theosophical Society.

During World War I, Besant, who was also the president of the Indian National Congress, helped launch the Home Rule League to campaign for democracy in India.

Ram Nath Kovind

Hailing from a Dalit family in Kanpur, Kovind was also the head of BJP’s Dalit Morcha from 1998 to 2002.

Before becoming the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind served as the Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017. Kovind was also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha for 12 years.

Before joining the BJP and entering politics, Kovind was a lawyer for 16 years and practiced in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court till 1993.

Hailing from a Dalit family in Kanpur, Kovind was also the head of BJP’s Dalit Morcha from 1998 to 2002. Kovind has worked for providing free legal aid to the weaker sections of the society.

Theresa May

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

A British politician, Theresa May became the Prime Minister of the country after David Cameron stepped down following the EU Referendum. May is now heading the monumental work and discussions on Brexit.

May is the only woman since Margaret Thatcher to hold the positions of both the Prime Minister of UK and the leader of the Conservative party. Apart from being the minister for women and equality, May has also been one of the longest serving Home Secretaries of the UK.

Julie Andrews

Andrews’s debut feature film, Mary Poppins (1964) won her the Oscar for the Best Actress.

Famous for her Broadway and movie roles, Julie Andrews is an Academy Award-winning actor. She is also a singer and a writer. Her Broadway musicals include My Fair Lady(1956) and Camelot (1960).

SD Burman composed many famous songs like Saiyan Dil Me Aana Re and Piya Tose Naina Lage Re.

One of the most celebrated Indian music composers, SD Burman composed music for over 100 movies, both in Hindi and Bengali. His son RD Burman also became a famous music composer for Bollywood films.
