Chanderi is mentioned in the Mahabharata as the capital of Lord Krishna’s arch nemesis, King Shishupala of the Chedis. In more recent times, the city was a strategic trade center and military outpost for the Mughals. While it was once known for its vast fortresses, today, it is known by the gorgeous sarees that bear its name.
