In an age when people are mainly riven by commercial considerations, this cafe in Bhilai comes as a breath of fresh air.

Tucked in the small town of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, ‘Nukkad The Teaffe’ is winning hearts for reaching out an overlooked section of people.

The cafe has largely employed differently abled people and transpersons on their staff. And not just that, the place is a haven for those looking to take a break from the virtual world and indulge in some real conversation.

The cafe has a unique way of encouraging people to give up their phones. It offers a 10 percent discount if you are willing to deposit your phone for all the time you spend in the cafe! This initiative is popularly called the Digital Detox initiative.

The decor of the cafe is a potpourri of various cultural elements. The rustic feel with tribal motifs, scattered colourful cushions, and vibrant lights give the place a quirky edge.

With staff that is differently abled, it is only natural to have a menu which can be spelt out easily, using sign language.

Cafe’s owner and founder Priyank Patel, wants to bring a change in the lives of differently abled people. Thus, he has created a space, where like-minded people meet and encourage others to be self-reliant.

The cafe has other initiatives apart from The Digital Detox. It has its own book bank, often referred to as the Gyaan Daan. Customers can exchange or donate their old books or just borrow some for five days.

In another beautiful gesture, the cafe celebrates Bill by Dill initiative, which allows its customers to pay as much as they want for the food and services.

If you are somebody looking to share your stories or just have a laid back evening, Nukkad The Teaffe should be your place. Indulge in some heart-to-heart conversations and give yourself a break from the vicious web of gadgets and gizmos!
