The Quint’s ‘What After Rape’ Campaign: Rapes Reported Today
As Independent India turns 70, The Quint’s year-long-campaign will attempt to track rapes reported every day.

In India, 34,651 rapes were reported in 2015.
Nearly 95 rapes every day.
But the only time we get angry about rape or decide to mobilise in large numbers is when a particularly horrific rape catches our attention on a seemingly slow-news day.
As India enters its 70th year, The Quint is going to track rapes reported every day in India for one year.
By no means are we claiming that this will be a comprehensive report. These are rapes reported in the media or through information obtained from police stations.
The dynamics of reporting on rape are determined by geography, class, caste and religion, and we acknowledge that. For every reported rape, there are many more which go unreported, also making the figure of 95 rapes a day inadequate.
But, it is a start. This will enable us to think of rape as a relentless, daily assault. An assault against which we need to mount a fierce fight every day.
