Swedish authorities have arrested three men who have been accused of gangraping a woman and live-streaming the attack on Facebook.
Josefine Lundgren, 21, alerted the police about the video. She said she had spotted it on a Facebook group, that has close to 60,000 members. Lundgren told the police that at the end of the video, a man can be heard saying: “you’ve been raped”.
She told the police that the accused had “had apparently filmed everything and took pictures that he put on (messaging site) Snapchat”.
The suspects, aged 18, 20 and 24, were arrested early Sunday in an apartment in Uppsala, 70 kilometres north of Stockholm, in the presence of the victim.
Police authorities have appealed to social media users to turn in footage of the attack.
The film has been removed from Facebook but it has been circulated on the internet. Swedish media have published excerpts of the footage, showing at least one of the suspects holding a revolver.
According to Berggren, other charges could be pressed against the suspects in addition to one of aggravated rape, for having streamed the attack.
