People can go to any extent to look good and when the treatment comes with no side effects, who wouldn’t go for it!

I have always taken on any challenge thrown my way and so when my producer asked me to pierce my face with a 100 needles, I said bring on the pain!

We are talking about cosmetic acupuncture, a rage among the celebs world over.

Atmantan Wellness Centre flew down Dr. Liana Nenacheva, Master in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, to Pune. She’s been a practicing acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine expert for the past 30 years. I was going to be in safe hands.

So What is Acupuncture?

Hollywood loves it. From Kim Kardashian to Jennifer Lopez, they all vouch for it.

A traditional Chinese non-surgical therapy, acupuncture has been around for more than 2500 years. Acupuncture is not just for beauty. It works at multiple levels including,

  • Organ
  • Chakras
  • Energy Flow
  • Nervous System
  • Digestive System
Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is a fan of cosmetic acupuncture.

In traditional Chinese medicine it is believed that disease is caused when your Qi (universal life energy) is disturbed.

Thin, hair-like needles are placed into certain points within the body to stimulate targeted healing that helps regulate the body’s natural functions.

Various western studies, including a major study published in Archives of Internal Medicine, 2012, has proven that acupuncture is effective in treating chronic pain.

How Does Cosmetic Acupuncture Help?

Celebrities, wanting to move away from the ‘frozen face’ era, have embraced Cosmetic Acupuncture as a more holistic approach to beauty.

So how does it work? Dr Liana tells me that the needles stimulate the production of elastin and collagen fibres, improve circulation, and relax muscles, all of which gives your face a more youthful look. It’s the latest buzzword in anti ageing industry.

Unlike botox, that essentially paralyses your face, acupuncture helps reduce acne, reduces of appearance of fine lines, increases circulation, leading to better oxygenation of the skin, less visible pores, among other benefits, says Dr Liana.
