If rumours are to be believed, British actor Daniel Craig is stepping down as James Bond following the fourth film in the franchise – Spectre.

And fresh rumours have surfaced that American TV series Homeland star Damian Lewis is top of the list among those being considered to replace Craig, at least for the UK bookies.

Bets have been placed on him succeeding Daniel Craig. This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond. This might well be significant.

The Telegraph report also quoted a spokesman from Betfair saying: “Damian Lewis hadn’t seen any interest in the betting until this weekend, but an absolute landslide in bets has forced us to cut the odds.”

Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender

Until now, Mandela star Idris Elba and X-Men star Michael Fassbender were rumoured to be the front-runners to become the next James Bond. But Damian Lewis seems to have thrown a huge spanner in the works.

Redheaded Bond?

Lewis may already have what it takes for agent life. He joked with The Telegraph back in 2013 that Skyfall paved the way for a redheaded Bond.

“I can’t believe they worked that in especially for me,” the actor had said.

Other contenders include Man of Steel star Henry Cavill and Mad Max actor Tom Hardy. We’d be happy with any of these hunky men saving our world!
