As of now, the theme song of the upcoming Bond movie Spectre is available only on Spotify. Quite sadly, as you already know, the music streaming service is not available in India. But we just heard it, thanks to our colleague Taruni’s cross-border connections, through which she managed to secure an exclusive account.

The new theme song called Writing’s on the Wall by British artist Sam Smith was released on Spotify following its launch earlier on Friday during a BBC radio show.

The ballad that lasts for 4 minutes and 38 seconds does not feature over-the-top brass sessions but still manages to get all the rising tensions of a classic Bond song.

Listen to the song on BBC Radio.

Fair warning – you might not like it immediately if you are still hooked to Adele’s Skyfall. Interestingly, the internet is also divided on what it thinks of the new single.

Former Bond actor Sir Roger Moore applauded the song as ‘haunting’.

The lyrics seem like a love song, beginning with:

“I’ve been here before / But always hit the floor.
I’ve spent a lifetime running, and I always get away.
But with you I’m feeling something, that makes we want to stay.”

It then makes way for a daring chorus – which blends in perfectly with Sam’s false vocals:

“How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you’re not here I’m suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?
For you I have to risk it all
Cause the writing’s on the wall.”
