Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the news of over 1 million fans signing a petition to remake season 8 of Game of Thrones with “competent writers” must have reached you. Even if you are not a Game of Thrones fan. Recently, actors Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) reacted to this fan-led demand.

In an interview with the New York Times, Sophie Turner said that she wasn’t that surprised as fans usually have a certain idea about how they want a show to end, and when it doesn’t, they start to “speak up about it and rebel.”

However, she does feel that it’s “disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season.”

“The thing about Game of Thrones that’s always been amazing is the fact that there’s always been crazy twists and turns, right from season 1 with Ned’s beheading. So Daenerys becoming something of the Mad Queen it shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans. It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.”

Here’s what Sophie had to say about the petition itself:

“All of these petitions and things like that I think it's disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it's not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

Actor Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, too felt the same. In an interview with Esquire magazine, Kit said that he didn’t care about what the critics had to say about the season finale. He also said that everyone on the show tried their hardest and in the end, that’s all that mattered.

“In the end, no one’s bigger fans of the show than we are, and we’re kind of doing it for ourselves. That’s all we could do, really. And I was just happy we got to the end.”
