Preity Zinta, Vir Das to Star in American Sitcom Spinoff Series
The actors are all set to appear on ‘Fresh Off the Boat’
Actors Preity Zinta and Vir Das might be the next stars of a potential American spinoff series. According to a report by entertainment website Variety, both Preity Zinta and Vir Das have been selected to guest star in an episode of American sitcom Fresh Off the Boat. The episode will be filmed in mid-November and it’s focus would be to introduce two characters that could potentially lead the spinoff series.
Preity Zinta would be playing the character of the mother Meena, and Vir Das would take on the role of father DC.
This spinoff series is reportedly titled Magic Motor Inn. It will explore the life of an Indian family. The fictional daughter of Meena and father DC Fresh Off the Boat’s Eddie Huang (Hudson Yang). The episode has been written by Fresh Off the Boat writer Rachna Fruchbom.
Variety has also clarified that according to sources, the episode is not a backdoor pilot and only sets the groundwork for the idea of a potential spinoff. If the makers choose to go ahead with the spinoff, an official pilot will need to be shot.
Fresh Off the Boat is an American sitcom that depicts the life of a Taiwanese-American family in the US in the 1990s. It is loosely based on the autobiography of chef and food personality Eddie Huang. In May, the sitcom was renewed for a sixth season. It is streaming on Hotstar for Indian viewers.
Vir Das is an Indian comedian and has also acted in Bollywood films like Delhi Belly.
