Anupam Kher is all set to appear in a new American medical drama TV series titled New Amesterdam from 25 September 2018, when it premieres on NBC. The series revolves around Dr Max Goodwin, played by Ryan Eggold, as he becomes the medical director of of an old public hospital and pushes for life-affirming changes and reforms in the neglected facility to provide exceptional care of patients.

Talking about New Amsterdam in an interview, Kher gave the reason why he chose to do the series. “It’s a fantastic script, it has an amazing graph and its end is fabulous and every character is very well defined. I have done enough work both in India and abroad, I like to challenge myself,” said the actor.

In the series, Kher plays the role of Dr Vijay Kapoor. Here’s how the actor describes his character in New Amsterdam - “Dr Kapoor has seen the fast life, he has seen people running fast nowhere, and what centres him is this hospital. He is well read and he knows what it takes to be a doctor apart from just the “qualifications”. I think that’s the greatest quality that Dr Kapoor has.”

Developed by David Schulner, New Amsterdam is based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital, by Eric Manheimer. The pilot episode of New Amsterdam was screened at the Boston Film Festival recently and Anupam Kher tweeted that it got an “amazing response”.

Here’s looking forward to Kher’s doctor act in New Amsterdam once it starts streaming in India.
