The makers of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat which has been mired in controversy for a long time now, finally revealed the release date of the film - 25 January on Sunday.

Despite being cleared for release with modifications by the CBFC with a U/A certification, many states like Rajasthan and Gujarat have refused to lift the ban on the release of the Deepika Pudokone starrer.

Based on 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem Padmavat, the movie faced resistance from its early stages by fringe groups. After facing a spate of violent threats and vandalism, the makers seem to be exercising special caution in making their position clear.

In an ad in a Mumbai daily, the makers explicated yet again that the film depicts Rani Padmavati with utmost respect and that there is no dream sequence between Alauddin Khilji and her.
