Sonam Kapoor and Dulquer Salman are busy prepping for their upcoming film, The Zoya Factor. As per the custom, the trailer of the film has been followed by a couple of songs. The latest one to drop is ‘Pepsi Ki Kasam’, where Sonam and Dulquer are seen grooving to the party beats and extremely tacky lyrics. The song has been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and performed by Benny Dayal with music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Listen to the song here:

The bigger problem here is the branding that is being proudly boasted of. It’s true that cricketers and celebrities endorse certain products and a scene or two in the film can be accepted, but dedicating an entire song to a soft drink is certainly something Bollywood should stay away from. Dulquer is seen swinging to the beats while holding the drink. Pepsi is mentioned some ten times in the song.

In another song Kaash, the hero and heroine romance while savouring a big slab of Dairy Milk Silk. I am sure those watching TV have mastered the unbelievably messy way the characters have chocolate and they will be more than happy if films spared them the drama.

While watching the song the one question that kept cropping on my mind was – how much money did the film make by endorsing these products? The answer is best left unsaid.
