A Rajinikanth film. Intro song. S P Blalasubramaniyam’s voice. Anirudh Ravichander’s music. A dozen folk drums. Endless goosebumps!

‘Chumma Kizhi’ cannot be translated. But it sort of means to set the stage on fire, or just go ahead and do it. The tone of the song from Darbar reminds us yet again of the ’90s Rajinikanth film, a genre that Karthick Subburaj revived with Petta.

Check out the single.

The behind the scenes (BTS) is similar to what was shown in Petta’s ‘Mass’ snd ‘Ullalla’ songs, where the singers are seen enjoying themselves and the drums bang out the rhythm.
Incidentally, this style of movie song BTS was popularised by Pawan Kalyan in movies like Atharintiki Daredi.

But the one that started it all has to be ‘Kolaveri’ from the film 3. Again composed by Anirudh. Wow! Full circle. But to see so much of Thalaiva in BTS, that too in a song, is a real treat! Directed by A R Murugadoss, Darbar is set to release on 10 January, 2020, and is bound to take Pongal by storm.

PS: The BTS footage in this one has the highest frequency of Rajini sightings ever in a promotional video!
