‘He Could Not Go on Any Longer’: Avicii’s Family Implies Suicide

“He really struggled with thoughts about meaning, life, happiness,” says Avicii’s family.

The family of the Swedish DJ, Avicii, who passed away at the age of 28 on 20 April, said that he “wanted peace” and “could not go on any longer” in an open letter.

<em>Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. </em><em>An over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress.</em><em>When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. </em><em>He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. </em><em>He could not go on any longer. </em><em>He wanted to find peace. </em><em>Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight. </em><em>Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. </em><em>The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.</em>

Tim Bergling aka Avicci’s family penned

The renowned electronic musician, who churned out hits like Wake Me Up, which was number one across Europe in 2013, was found dead in Muscat, Oman where he was on a holiday with his friends.

Though the police in Oman have kept the circumstances surrounding his death confidential, they ruled out any foul play. According to Variety, the family’s statement worded in Swedish, implies suicide.

Avicii’s fans were flabbergasted by his retirement announcement at the age of 26 in 2016. He had admitted then that he wanted to leave the high-flying electronic music lifestyle.

Avicii dealt with numerous health problems, including acute pancreatitis.
