Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt received an anonymous call which threatened to kill him, his wife Soni Razdan and daughter Alia Bhatt on Thursday.

Within 12 hours of the incident and a compliant being lodged, the Mumbai crime branch tracked the call down to an unemployed 24-year-old Sandeep Sahu from Lucknow, as The Times of India reported.

The call was apparently an extortion call, which the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Police and the veteran filmmaker lodged a complaint at the Juhu police station.

The latest update in the case, came from a tweet by the filmmaker himself on Thursday morning.

Sahu posed as the underworld gangster Babloo Srivastava, trying to extort Rs 50 lakh from him. In one of the correspondences, he asked the filmmaker to wire transfer the entire sum in a bank account with a Lucknow address. That helped the police track him down, along with Uttar Pradesh’s special task force.
