After fighting a long battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Lipstick Under My Burkha finally released in theatres and got a brilliant reception from audiences across the nation.

The film, directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, earned over Rs 26 crore at the box-office and has now become the most watched Bollywood film on Amazon Prime Video since its launch in December last year.

According to a report in Live Mint, the film has been watched by 40% of its active customers since it went on Prime Video on 15 August.

Lipstick Under My Burkha was our best performing Bollywood title for the initial two weeks after it came to the platform and is also the best performing since our launch. The film continues to be in top three titles for Amazon Prime till date,” said a company spokesperson to Live Mint.

Lipstick Under My Burkha, with four female cast and a “lady-oriented” story line has performed better than “star”-studded films - Rajinikanth’s Kabali, Salman Khan's Sultan, and Ranbir Kapoor’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Now that’s something!

After its success in India, Lipstick Under My Burkha will also release in US on 15 September. And the reviews of the film suggest a positive reception from movie-goers abroad as well.
