KD, the quest of an 80-year-old and an 8-year-old to tick things off their bucket list, is a beautiful watch full of light moments.

The Quint caught up with the director of the film, Madhumita, and the cast comprising Mu Ramasamy, as KD, and Nagavishal, who plays the adorable Kutty.

The film gives you warm and fuzzy feels, just like a Kuttichathan or a Nemo would. Whether it is watching KD dig into a plate of chicken biryani like it is the last plate on earth or dressing up as MGR or enacting a scene from Padayappa, this is a movie that leaves you with a big smile on your face.

A Dark Story Full of Light Moments

When Karuppu Durai (Mu Ramaswamy) wakes up from a coma, he overhears his sons discussing euthanasia as an option to get rid of him and stake claim to his property. He decides to run away and chances upon an eight-year-old orphan, Kutty, and the rest of the film is all about their adventures.

“It was a dark story to tell since it was about death and Thalaikoothal (ritual of euthanasia). Having a humorous take on death is quite challenging and that’s when I decided it has to be about life... only when you are that close to death do you realise the value of life,” said director Madhumita.

Nagavishal, who was selected after auditioning over 250 kids in Madurai, is the highlight of the film. He is street-smart, witty and Mu Ramaswamy compliments him quite well.

"I had a character which had scope for a lot of drama, a script that allowed a lot of realistic acting, so I was happy to do this," Mu Ramasamy said.
