1. Karni Sena Wants ‘Padmavati’ Banned; Starts Nationwide Protest

The Shree Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena on Friday demanded a ban on Padmavati after slamming Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani and censor board chief Prasoon Joshi for allowing its release with a U/A certificate.

“I want to ask the central government what benefits will they get by supporting this movie? All the Hindu parties from whom we learnt about Hinduism are quiet on this film,” said Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, President of Karni Sena.

If reports are to be believed, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan would be taking home Rs 10 crore for her next project, a remake of the 1967 film Raat Aur Din. Bridging the gender gap when it comes to fees, producer Prernaa Arora reportedly have agreed to the actor’s terms. A victory for the women in the industry for sure.

“Since Aishwarya has a double role, the film will require extensive preparation. It will be a time-consuming project, which means she will have to let go of other films that come her way. The fee she has quoted is fair. The producers have agreed to the amount without any negotiation.”

3. Women Should Have Free Access to Sanitary Napkins: Akshay Kumar

National Award-winning actor Akshay Kumar, who is addressing the issue of menstrual hygiene in his forthcoming film PadMan, says women should get sanitary napkins for free as it is a basic necessity for them. Asked, if the Toilet: Ek Prem Katha actor wants to reach out to the government to cut down on GST rate of sanitary napkins, Akshay told media on Thursday:

“Why just cut down on GST? I think women should have free access to sanitary napkins. This is their basic necessity. It is about menstrual hygiene and not luxury.”

4. CBFC Green Lights Amartya Sen Documentary; No Cuts Demanded

National Award-winning director Suman Ghosh today said the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has agreed to release his documentary on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen in its entirety, including the four words that the board's regional office had objected to in July last year.

The hour-long documentary had courted controversy last year when the director refused to abide by CBFC Kolkata diktat of beeping the four words -- cow, Gujarat, Hindutva and Hindu.

5. Richa Chadha Gets Drink Named After Her ‘Fukrey’ Role

Actor Richa Chadha has got a drink named after her role of Bholi Punjaban from the Fukrey franchise. True Tramm Trunk, a restaurant, has introduced a new cocktail named ‘Bholi Bhali Punjaban’, which is infused with litchi fruit juice. It will be offered to patrons in a customised bottle with Bholi Punjaban's image on the bottle. The restobar has an array of quirky drinks with quirkier names and this was a seamless integration into their menu, read a statement.
