Karan Johar, who came under heavy criticism for his “nepotism rocks” act at the IIFA awards recently with actors Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan, has now said that the whole act was meant to be a joke. The filmmaker said that the “joke” has been misplaced, misunderstood and he felt that it went wrong and he regrets it.

Speaking to NDTV, Johar said that he doesn’t really believe that nepotism rocks and that only “talent rocks” along with hard work and conviction. He was candid enough to admit that the act was entirely his and that they “went a bit too far with the Kangana mention.”

Karan’s “regret” comes after Varun Dhawan tweeted an apology for the IIFA act yesterday.

Johar went on to say that while he got carried away at the awards show and regretted it, he wanted to close the chapter after this and that he “will not speak about nepotism nor Kangana because it would be distrustful for her and it would be ungraceful at my end.”
