Thalaivar 168: Rajinikanth’s Next After ‘Darbar’ Announced

Tamil production banner Sun Pictures has announced their next film with Superstar Rajinikanth tentatively Thalaivar 168, after Rajini’s affectionate nickname and since it will be his 168th release. The new film will be directed by Siva Prasad Reddy, who has helmed the superhits Veeram, Viswasam and Vivegam starring ‘Thala’ Ajith Kumar and also Boss starring Nagarjuna Akkineni.

Rajinikanth and Sun Pictures have earlier collaborated on 2010’s Enthiran and this year’s Petta. The company shared the news on Twitter, writing, “After the blockbuster hits Enthiran and Petta, the mega hit combo of Superstar @rajinikanth and @sunpictures come together for the third time for Thalaivar 168, Superstar’s next movie, directed by @directorsiva#Thalaivar168BySunPictures”

Sun Pictures shared a short animated announcement video, which shows the outline of Rajini’s most famous pose along with the hashtag #Thalaivar168 and the names of the team involved.

Rajini was last in Petta, directed by Kartik Subbaraj and released in January this year. The film also starred Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Simran.

He is currently shooting for Ghajini director AR Murugadoss’ Darbar, along with Nayanthara, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar, Nawab Shah and Dalip Tahil. Darbar will see Rajini play a police officer after 27 years. The film is aiming for an Onam a.k.a January 2020 release.
