The makers of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy have released a teaser for the upcoming historical drama. Set against the backdrop of pre-Independence India, the film aims to bring alive the tale of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy of Kurnool, who led a rebellion against the British in 1846.

Watch the teaser here:

The teaser opens with a voiceover that proclaims that while we remember names like Bhagat Singh and Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi, history has forgotten the warrior who waged the first war against the British. We see shots of Chiranjeevi as the fierce Narasimha Reddy as he takes on British soldiers.

Chiranjeevi had earlier expressed his desire to play a historic character in a film.
"It has always been my dream to play Bhagat Singh. Despite being offered the role back in the day, I couldn't play it for several reasons and it was later played by several of my counterparts. It was played by several actors across languages. I regret missing out on an opportunity to play the role because I don't think anyone wants to make a film on him today," he said in an interview with Bpositive.

Touted as a Telugu magnum opus, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has been directed by Surender Reddy and stars an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, who plays Narashima Reddy’s mentor in the film, Tamannaah, Anushka Shetty, Nayanthara, Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi and Jagapathi Babu. It has reportedly been made under a huge budget of Rs 150 crore and has been bankrolled by Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy will be distributed in Hindi by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment and releases on 2 October.
