Putting rumours to rest, actor Dhanush confirmed on Friday, 20 April, that the Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala will now release on 7 June.

Dhanush, whose banner Wunderbar Studios is producing the film, announced the new date on Twitter.

The film’s release, which was originally slated for 27 April, was pushed after the Tamil film industry went on a strike on 1 March.

The announcement came after the Madras High Court dismissed a petition which levelled plagiarism charges against the Rajinikanth-starrer.

Justice CV Karthikeyan, in his order on 19 April, rejected the contention of petitioner KS Rajashekaran, a film producer, that the story of the Rajinikanth flick was developed by him.

Thalaivar Fans Rejoice After Annoucement

Kaala has already garnered a lot of buzz not just for being Rajnikanth’s big summer release this year but also because fans and followers are eager to watch the Thalaivar play a gangster again.

He played a gangster in the 2016 blockbuster Kabali directed by Pa Ranjith. Kaala is the second collaboration between director Pa Ranjith and Rajinikanth.

The film also stars Huma Qureshi, Nana Patekar and Anjali Patil, among others.

After the news of the release broke, social media went into a frenzy with the loyal Thalaivar fans deeming it as a “summer treat for all Rajini fans” that is likely to smash all records.
