While speculation was rife that Ajay Devgn was to make his Tamil debut in Shankar’s Indian 2, the actor has finally addressed why he will not be seen opposite Kamal Haasan in the sequel to the 1996 film.

“I would have loved to do Shankar's movie, but I didn't have the dates. He wanted to shoot the movie right now. [But] I am stuck with Taanaji,” mid-day reported Ajay as saying.

He also put to rest rumours that he had turned down the film as he didn’t want to play a grey character. "For an artiste, there are no shades of grey, black or white - the more layers you have in a role, the better it is. I loved doing movies like Khakee and Company where my negative characters were appreciated. I would love to play such roles again. I cannot say if it [the part in Indian 2] was grey or not because I am not doing it now; it's somebody else's role."

Ajay will be seen next alongside Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in Total Dhamaal. He is also currently shooting for Taanaji - The Unsung Warrior, a film based on the life of Taanaji Malusare, a trusted general of Maratha leader Shivaji Maharaj. There are also rumours that he has been roped in for a film by Baahubali director SS Rajamouli that stars Ram Charan Teja and NT Rama Rao Jr, but there has been no official statement from the makers yet.
