Anushka Sharma feels vindicated to have chosen Navdeep Singh’s NH 10 as her debut production. While speaking to the media post the film’s critical success and good start at the box-office, the actress said:
“I could see its viability since the start. The audience reaction and box office figures have only assured everyone else that these kind of concept driven, good films work. Formula driven films don’t work. I expected this kind of response. I knew we had a good film in hand. I didn’t think so many people would like it. I knew critical acclaim may happen but getting collections is a bonus.”
NH 10 reportedly cost Rs 14 crores (including marketing), and has collected over Rs 15 crores at the domestic box-office in 4 days.
However before Anushka started NH10, people tried to dissuade her from turning producer or taking up a dark subject.
“I was told I am too young to be a producer or that nobody else has done it so why are you doing it. I got very typical response because we have the tendency to compare. If you are not doing things that others are doing then you are doing something wrong. But I am relentless person. I didn’t give up. I liked the newness of NH10’s concept and I backed it from the start.”
The actress feels the critical and commercial success of NH10 will allow more such concept films to be made. “Success follows and creates a lot of opportunities. People would be ready to make these kind of films.”
The actress who is currently going through a good phase post PK and NH10’s success is looking forward to her next two releases.
“Bombay Velvet is another different film – a different character for me that people will get to see. After that, there’s Dil Dhadakne Do. I am happy with the films I am doing and the different directors I am working with. You will constantly keep seeing a different side of me as an actor. Ultimately that’s what I wanted to do with my career – give one different role, one different character from another. So hopefully that will happen. As producers, my brother and I will focus on script not stars.”
