Emma Corrin Cast as Princess Diana in ‘The Crown’
The British actress says that she has been glued to the Netflix show since the first episode.
British actress Emma Corrin has been cast to play the role of the young Princess Diana in the fourth season of Netflix show, The Crown, which chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times.
The newcomer called it "most exceptional opportunity" in a statement on her Instagram account.
“I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal. Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice,” said Corrin.
The filming for season four will begin later this year.
Recently, it was announced that actress Gillian Anderson of The X-Files fame will be playing former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher aka the Iron Lady in The Crown’s fourth season.
The two actresses join the new cast of season 3, to be aired later this year, which includes Olivia Colman who replaced Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth and Helena Bonham Carter in the role of Princess Margaret.
Diana was married to the Prince of Wales from 1981 to 1996. She died in a car accident in August 1997.
