The first clip acquainted us with Mithila’s character Nirma, a timid Mumbai tour guide who turns to self-help tapes to improve her confidence. She buys a new car only to have it stolen by a goat-loving gangster played by Gully Boy’s Vijay Raaz. Nirma finds herself seeking the help of a seasoned con artist, essayed by Abhay Deol, to recover the stolen vehicle and, in the process, learns to find her place in the world.

We also were introduced to Abhay Deol’s character as a charismatic conman.

Abhay Deol offered further insight into the premise of the film in an Instagram post.

Chopsticks has been directed by Sachin Yardi and produced by Ashvini Yardi of Viniyard Productions. It premieres on Netflix on 31 May.

Last November, Netflix unveiled its plans to step up its production of Indian content, and has since premiered titles such as Firebrand, Music Teacher and 15 August, which was produced by Madhuri Dixit and Sriram Nene. Other films in the pipeline include Bard of Blood, which is being backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Productions; Typewriter, created by Kahaanidirector Sujoy Ghosh and an adaptation of Prayaag Akbar’s novel Leila, to be directed by Deepa Mehta.

In April this year, the streaming platform announced 10 additional new Indian original films. Among these are Mrs Serial Killer, directed by Shirish Kunder and produced by his filmmaker wife Farah Khan; Guilty, produced by Dharma Productions’ web division Dharmatic and Class of 83, which will be produced by Red Chillies Productions.
