Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Pink is the year’s most important film, and to drive its message home the film’s lead actors Tapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi decided to feature in a quirky music video, that has an important message about ‘consent’ for both boys and girls.
The Yes Na Yes, No Naati No is a fun video with a crucial message. Not only is it essential for boys to understand that ‘no’ means ‘no’, it is also for girls to make sure they say what they mean, without playing hard-to-get. Angad Bedi even asks a valid question on behalf of the guys out there- shouldn’t a boy pursue the girl of his dreams, even if she turns him down?
To that Tapsee jumps with an important piece of advice for girls-
“When you play hard to get and say ‘no’ when you actually mean ‘yes’, you end up confusing men”.
When it comes to sex, girls should say what they mean and boys should respect that. It’s interesting that this video puts equal responsibility for ‘consent’ on men and women both. A truly feminist idea.
While the Amitabh Bachchan starrer is a hard-hitting bold film, this Culture Machine video is a clever one with a simple message- Yes mean yes and no means no.
