“It’s merely a coincidence”, says Aamir when questioned about the similarities between Dangal and Sultan. Both the films are centred around wrestling, and rumour has it that Aamir Khan was cheesed off by the early release of Yash Raj Film’s Sultan. But Aamir diplomatically sidelined questions about any strife.

The film has been in the making for two years, and is now nearing fruition. Aamir Khan calls it a mainstream film, with a beautiful narrative that binds the biography of Mahaveer Phogat. For Director Nitesh Tiwari, Aamir Khan was the first choice for the role. Aamir has been training under Commonwealth gold medallist Kripashankar, who has also been training the actresses playing Geeta and Babita Phogat, for a year.
