Rs 8.75 crore may not seem a very impressive number for day one of a Shah Rukh Khan starrer, but keeping in mind the impact of demonetisation on ticket sales, screen count and the genre of Dear Zindagi, the film’s first day collections are quite good.

The film was limited to a 1200 screen release in India, a very modest number for a Shah Rukh Khan starrer, remember his last release Fan released in around 3000 screens in the domestic market. So the curtailed number of screens also shows why Rs. 8 cr has been termed as a “strong start” for the film, in which Alia Bhatt has more screen time than SRK.

This new Dharma co-production has also been well-received overseas:

Dear Zindagi is also what one would call a niche, multiplex film - which opened to mostly positive reviews. The collections of the film are likely to rise over the weekend with good word of mouth. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 35 crore, this Gauri Shinde film is likely to make a profit if this strong start translates into a consistent good run at the box-office for one week.
