Anoushka Shankar Bags Sixth Grammy Nomination
Anoushka Shankar has grabbed a nomination under ‘Best World Music Album’ for ‘Land of Gold’.
Sitar player and composer, Anoushka Shankar has been nominated for the prestigious 59th annual Grammy Award for the sixth time this year. She has grabbed a nomination under ‘Best World Music Album’ for ‘Land of Gold’.
Anoushka, who is the daughter of late sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, received her first ever Grammy nomination at the age of 20. She was the youngest-ever and the first woman nominee in the World Music category. She is also the first Indian artist to perform at the Grammy Awards.
Anoushka studied Indian Classical music exclusively from the age of nine under the guidance of her father and guru, Ravi Shankar. Anoushka was accompanied by tabla maestro Zakir Hussain for her first public performance at the age of 13 in New Delhi.
Anoushka has collaborated with many prominent artists including her paternal half-sister, Norah Jones. Jones has won nine Grammy Awards.
Her album, ‘Land of Gold’, explores the stories of the ‘voiceless and dispossessed’.
