Filmmaker Suman Ghosh who has made a documentary on Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen – ‘The Argumentative Indian’ – decided to release the film on YouTube after the CBFC asked the director to mute the words “Gujarat” and “cow”, and phrases such as “Hindutva view of India’ and ‘Hindu India’, The Indian Express reported.

Speaking to The Sunday Express, Ghosh said:

I will release the entire documentary online. However, I have not finalised a date for its online release

The film was screened at Nandan III on 10 July, and was set to hit theatres on 14 July, but Ghosh who doesn’t agree with the CBFC guidelines decided to not release it in the theatres at all.

Earlier on 14 July, Ghosh posted the trailer on the documentary on his Facebook account. Even though his trailer didn’t have the words censored by CBFC, its chairman said the act was illegal.

Under attack from all quarters for bleeping certain phrases in the documentary on eminent economist Amartya Sen, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani said the board was just doing its job.
