Spine-Chilling Performance by Joaquin Phoenix in ‘Joker’ Trailer

After dropping the first trailer in April, Warner Bros has released the final trailer of Joaquin Phoenix-starrer Joker. Set in the 80s, the trailer of Joker offers an insightful glimpse into the life of Arthur Fleck, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Arthur is a failing stand-up comedian who who works as a clown-for-hire by the day. He struggles to make sense of himself in the increasingly cruel society of Gotham, finally making his way into the criminal underworld.

The final trailer is filled with expectations of a powerful performance as we watch Phoenix breathe life into the layered and extremely complicated character of Joker.

The first trailer that released in April gave us an insight into the psyche of Phoenix’s character. The most vulnerable and intimate moments of his life portrayed him beyond the traditional persona of a super-villain.

Joker also stars Robert De Niro as a talk show host and Zazie Beetz as a single mother who is also Arthur’s love interest. Other actors who play supporting roles include Frances Conroy, Bill Camp, and Marc Maron.

Earlier in August, Phoenix spoke about how he prepared for such an intense role. He said that his preparation included studying victimc of PLC (Pathological Laughter or Crying) in order to better understand his character. The actor said that, “I saw videos showing people suffering from pathological laughter, a mental illness that makes mimicry uncontrollable.”

Joker will release on 4 October.
