Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra’s film Jabariya Jodi , directed by Prashant Singh has seen an extremely slow release day, making a small Rs.3.15 crores on Friday.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to twitter on Saturday 10 August to share the news, writing “#JabariyaJodi is dull on Day 1... Needs miraculous growth on Day 2 and 3 for a respectable weekend total... Fri ₹ 3.15 cr. India biz.”
While the film tries to drive home the ugliness of the Western Bihar tradition of pakadua vivaah (kidnap and force to marry) where patriarchy, the social compulsion to marry and dowry come together in a deadly combination, this message doesn't seem to have reached the grassroots where the incidence of such forced marriages is on the rise.
Critics also did not seem to enjoy the film:
It remains to be seen if the film picks up over the weekend.
