Kerala CBFC Blocks ‘21 Months of Hell’, a Film on Emergency
Yet another Malayalam film finds itself unofficially banned by the CBFC.
Just when the controversy over the establishment’s relentless efforts to ban S Durga screenings was dying down, comes news of yet another film which has been blocked by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This time round, it is a Malayalam documentary on the Emergency titled, 21 Months of Hell, which has been blocked by the Kerala CBFC.
According to reports, the documentary has been denied certification on the following grounds:
- Too much violence
- Disrespect towards Mahatma Gandhi
- Disrespect to the national flag
- Documentary not based on evidence
- Issues with Indira Gandhi’s portrayal
The film’s director, Yadu Vijayakrishnan, says that his documentary, 21 Months of Hell, was outrightly rejected by the regional CBFC team without even suggesting any modifications which could help get the film passed.
The filmmaker has accused the Kerala CBFC team of being populated by Leftists and Congress supporters, because of which his documentary is being unofficially banned. As per reports, 21 Months of Hell will be sent to the Mumbai CBFC office and evaluated by the revising committee before a decision is reached on the film’s certification.
