Gracious, a Bit Unfunny, Mostly Blah: Vir Das on Conan O’Brien

Vir Das presented worldwide news to a largely American audience on Conan’s show.

The first Indian to have his own Netflix Special, Vir Das was once again seen on Conan O’Brien’s talk show, this time, presenting world news to Americans. While Das was ‘very generously given five minutes to talk about 7 billion people’, Das tried to incorporate a lot of elements that are making headlines worldwide, but were over shadowed by the antics of President Trump in America.

Das managed to explain India’s ever-growing population, its successful space outings, the status of natural resources in Africa, and how everything in Canada is perfect.

For a person who wanted to present news to Americans that didn’t involve Donald Trump, Vir Das still doesn’t give him a miss.

“The world has 7 billion people, Twitter has only 300 million active users. So, every time Donald Trump tweets something really insane, 97% world hasn’t read it. To us, Rocket Man is still a song and Crooked Hillary is a bridge in Scotland.”

But one thing Vir was right about was Catalonia.

“I am Indian. If there is one thing we can say about British is that they take forever to leave a country.”

So, what did I think of Vir Das’ generous five minutes to talk about 7 billion people?
Pretty basic stuff that Das managed to present in a classy manner. This, I have to give it to the guy - he’s always gracious, even in his sarcasm. But otherwise, mostly blah.
