I still remember the first time I saw her in the Perk ad, and all I wanted to know was, who the hell is she? Turned out that the dimpled smile and those naughty eyes attracted not just me but a whole lot of people. And soon Preity Zinta was seen in several ads, before finally making her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Dil Se.
Since then, Preity worked with will all the big stars from Aamir Khan to Salman Khan to Hrithik Roshan, stole our hearts with films like Kya Kehna, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer Zaara, and became Bollywood’s most favourite ‘bubbly’ heroine.
And today as she turns 43, we look back into those ads which first introduced us to Ms Zinta.
Remember Preity’s very first commercial back in 1996? That dazzling dimpled smile, which the ad ended with, sure left an impression. And you won’t believe how she ended up getting this ad. She accidentally met with the director at a friend’s birthday party and ended up doing this commercial.
Being the Liril girl was a much coveted act in the ad world in the 90s. In 1997, Preity grabbed the role, thereby also catching Mani Ratnam’s eye, who then cast her in Dil Se.
After becoming a star, Preity along with Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Fardeen were signed up by Pepsi as the ‘young heart-throbs’ of the nation for their ad campaign in 2003. How time flies!
