Priya Prakash Varrier shot into limelight after her 'wink' in the song Manika Malaraya Poovi from her Malayalam film, Oru Adaar Love went viral. She turned into an internet sensation overnight.

An FIR was lodged against the actor, the director Omar Abdul Wahab and the producer Joseph Valakuzhy Eapen in Maharashtra and Telangana on the grounds that a song from her film allegedly hurt religious sentiments of the Muslim community.

After staying criminal proceedings against her in February, the Supreme Court has now quashed the FIR against her.

CJI Misra reportedly said, “Somebody in a film sings a song and you have no other job but to file a case.”

The SC also stated that no criminal complaint can be lodged against them in any state in future for hurting religious sentiments of Muslims.
